Contributor's comments: My understanding of this word was that it was spelt Yea and came from the older version of yes - so a piece of wood yea big would be accompanied by a hand gesture to indicate yes that's the right size. I haven't encountered anyone who didn't understand yea big in fairly wide travel throughout Australia.
Contributor's comments: Also a term used in Nth Qld - Yay big, Yay far, Yay long. Usually used in reference to distance, length or volume rather than weight.
