trove

noun a large sink installed in a laundry. Compare laundry tub, trough. Also, trow. [British dialect variant of trough]

Contributor's comments: I grew up in the Riverina (late 60's - 70's) calling the laundry tubs 'Troves' (plural - never singular) or 'Wash troves'

Contributor's comments: I grew up in Gippsland and have always called the laundry sink the 'troves', even with only one sink. I now live in W.A. and have never met anyone that knows what I'm talking about with the word troves. I was happy to find it here and know it wasn't just my own word!!
