Contributor's comments: It used to be very common to hear older Tasmanians refer to the mainland as "the other side". However this usage appears to be disappearing.

Contributor's comments: Growing up on King Island "the Mainland" refered to Tasmania proper, the rest of Australia was named by city, regional, state name or as Australia.
