paddock

referring to a particular paddock, stress is on the second syllable: That pad-dock over there.

Contributor's comments: Paddock is a common word in most dictionaries. Why is it considered to be a regionalism?

Editor's comments: It's not the word per se, but the pronunciation that has been recorded as regional. Has anyone else heard the word "paddock" stressed on the second syllable?

Contributor's comments: Never heard that pronunciation in my life. Someone's having a loan of you here.

Contributor's comments: I did recently meet a woman who has a farm in Beaconsfield, who pronounced the word in this way. Pad-DOCK. I thought it was odd as I'd never heard it pronounced that way before.
