four-pointer

a sandwich consisting of two slices of bread sliced diagonally: Used in northern Tasmania - Launceston and Devonport. If you ask for sandwiches in a cafe, you're asked if you want a four-pointer or a six-pointer.

Contributor's comments: I remember Mum (Adelaide born but grew up in Hobart) and Nana (born in Melb but many many more years in Launceston) talking about sangers. I'd ask for "two please" and then the debate would be on for whether I wanted four slices of bread made into two rounds or eight points, or two slices of bread made as one round or four points - and so whether Mum was making too many or too few.
