D.T.s

Men's/boys swimming briefs: John get your D.T.'s we're going for a swim. Also, dick togs.

Contributor's comments: [Hunter Valley informant] Have heard of the D.T's to be called dick sticks, lollie bags, sluggos.

Contributor's comments: This term is used throughout SE Queensland.

Contributor's comments: I've only ever known these as "dick togs" or simply DT's, which seems to be a fairly universal name in Queensland.

Contributor's comments: [Brisbane informant] When we were at school (80's) we used to call them "DT's" the polite version of "dick togs". At the time wearing speedos was considered very daggy - at least by us schoolgirls!

Contributor's comments: [North Coast Qld informant] Dick togs are also called DT's. I guess because dick togs sounds a bit rude.

Contributor's comments: [Brisbane informant] Abbreviated form of 'dick togs' [as already included in your database]: "My daughter was embarassed to see those middle-aged men parading on the beach in their DTs."

Contributor's comments: Also known in Newcastle as "dick stickers".

Contributor's comments: I heard "DTs" around Brisbane and near north and south coasts in the 80's, but the more colorful term was "Dick Daks". I first encountered the word "sluggos" when I stumbled across this page.

Contributor's comments: Speedos were dick togs in Mount Isa too.
