Contributor's comments: From Sydney, I've always referred to these as 'garbage tins' but I've noticed that my children at a Northern Suburbs school seem to refer to the bins at the school as 'rubbish bins'. I can only conclude that this is what the teachers are calling them.
Contributor's comments: In Melbourne a "rubbish bin" is where rubbish went. Contracted to "bin" now & in practical terms replaced by wheelybins.
