Contributor's comments: I always thought of it as "lacquer band", even though I recognised the link with elastic. Thats' the thing, you never see these things written down until you do this sort of thing. It's fun.

Contributor's comments: I spent most of my life in Melbourne, and have always used 'lucker band'. I have only occasionally heard it pronounced lacker band.

Contributor's comments: I grew up in the Western District and Melbourne in the 50s and 60s. It was always 'lacker band' - clear 'a', and definitely 'd' on the end. Never heard 'lucker'
