Contributor's comments: As a tram is the same at each end, I am bemused at the "back end" comparison; seems frankly meaningless, no? The one I've known for many years to describe an ugly woman is "built like the loud end of a rubble-dumper." Very expressive!
Editor's comments: Actually, the full expression is "face like the back of a tram smash" - which makes more sense.
