chevapchichi

A little spicy mince sausage with no skin: Put a few chevapchichis on the barbie mate!

Contributor's comments: I remember chevapchichi from primary school (late 70s). We had a sleepover at school. Some parents cooked for us. A European woman cooked chivapchichis and claimed them to be from her native Czech (I think). I didn't think it was a regional word at all. Can't you buy them at Woolworths nationally?

Contributor's comments: I didn't think Chevapchichi was a regionalism. More the ethnic name for what these sausages are. I thought they were Hungarian. Anyway they are labelled 'chevapchichi in Melbourne supermakets and that's what we call them. Lovely!

Contributor's comments: Never heard of these sausages in Sydney.

Contributor's comments: cevapcici is a serbian variation of the Turkish dish kebabkese.

Contributor's comments: Woolies in Balmain (Sydney) sells them.

Contributor's comments: These are just called Chevups in Perth. You can get them in some supermarkets.

Contributor's comments: I recently moved from Adelaide to Melbourne and although they have the same name here, they are so very hard to find and don't taste the same as they do in SA.
