Met Cop is a ticket inspector on Melbourne's public trasport system. They can hand out fines and make things dificult if you dont have your "met card" handy: I saw the Met Cops handing out fines on the tram today. Compare Gestapo, Metcard Mafia, train dog, train fascist, train nazi, tram fascist.

Contributor's comments: I remember the 'Met cops' in Melbourne. They were also known as 'tram fascists' among many people I knew. Now living in Sydney, this has become 'train fascists'. The strength of terminology probably reflects changes to public transport around the country, where the focus of the few remaining staff is now enforcement rather than customer service. Not their fault, just their state govts.
Contributor's comments: We used to call them the Gestapo when I was at school. Back then they wore huge grey coats.
