Riverina bluebell

noun a biennial herb, Echium plantagineum, native to the Mediterranean area, but widely naturalised in settled parts of Australia, having blue-purple flowers. Compare Lachlan lilac, Murrumbidgee sweet pea, Paterson's curse, Salvation Jane.

Contributor's comments: The words Riverina Bluebells has also been used to describe ladies of the Riverina who are Councillors of the Federation of P&C Associations of NSW. A group of them at one stage wrote a song about themselves. Our Riverina Bluebells are certainly hard-wroking women supporting public education from their area!
