Anyone born in Broken Hill: In the old days you had to be an A-grouper to get a job on the mines, or married to one. See B-grouper.

Contributor's comments: I'm fairly sure that A Grouper included those born and/or educated in the West Darling, not just in Broken Hill itself.

Contributor's comments: Broken Hill miners had to be born or educated in Broken Hill or have lived there for seven years. Due to the shortage of miners the the area was increased to 200 miles radius of Broken Hill for B-groupers or the husband of a woman who satisfied A-group.
